LAS VEGAS TIPS

Grand Adventures Tours

We wanted to put together some insider tips for you while you visit Las Vegas and hopefully make your trip as cool as possible.   All of us get a lot of questions from customers about “what the locals do”.  We’re working on a full website to address these questions but this will help in the meantime.  It’s mainly the cool things we do as locals when we head to the strip.  The list also includes what we advise to our friends.  So, here you go!

1

GET YOUR REWARDS CARD!

One of the biggest misconceptions in Las Vegas is that you have to gamble for your players club card to earn points.  That’s not true anymore.   Food, entertainment, nightclubs, and pools rake in a lot of money for the casinos now.  Make sure you get a players card and connect it to your room.  Everyone is going to pay with their credit or debit cards anyway.  You can earn comp points towards your stay or if you come back to Las Vegas by room-charging.  You don’t have to stay in your casino to room charge.  Caesar’s Entertainment and MGM Resorts own nearly the entire strip.  That means if you are staying at one of their properties, you can eat at another and room charge it to earn points.  This includes all of your pool, show, and all charges.
MGM Resorts
MGM Properties:  Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, NYNY, MGM Grand, the Signature, The Park at MGM, Aria, Vdara, Mandarin Oriental, Bellagio, Mirage, and Circus Circus are all owned by MGM.  That means if have a room at NYNY and eating at Bellagio, you can room charge and earn points.

Caesar's Entertainment

MGM Properties:  Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, NYNY, MGM Grand, the Signature, The Park at MGM, Aria, Vdara, Mandarin Oriental, Bellagio, Mirage, and Circus Circus are all owned by MGM.  That means if have a room at NYNY and eating at Bellagio, you can room charge and earn points.

BEST PLACE TO FIND TRAVEL DEALS

All of the travel websites like Expedia and Travelocity have air and hotel packages available on them.  Shop those but check these other places that aren’t as popular but often offer even better deals.    Caesar’s Entertainment & MGM Resorts own almost the entire strip so check their rewards sites for package deals.
VEGAS.COM – Vegas.com seems to have the most consistent, best deals on their travel site.
MLIFE – Mlife is MGM’s rewards card.  They sell package deals on their website and you can sign up for your players card online.  They have discounts for AAA and deals with Southwest airlines.  Veterans are automatically get upgraded to Pearl Card status so call and get that upgrade before you book anything.  You’ll immediately get free garage parking and 10% discount.  Their site interfaces with Expedia but they’ll undercut them.
CAESAR’S  – Caesar’s doesn’t have the package deals on their site like MGM but they are great when they do.  They seem to comp lot better too if you room charge.
SOUTHWEST AIRLINES  – Southwest Airlines is the best local carrier for traveling on the west coast, especially for one-way hops. You can get excellent deals if you book months in advance.  They allow up to two bags for free. They are also MGM Resort’s preferred travel partner and will have casino deals on their website.

TRAVELING LA, VEGAS, SAN FRAN?

This is for people who don’t want to rent a car and drive:  Check out Megabus.com if you don’t mind taking a bus.  They take a little longer but are really cheap.  You should also check into one-way flights with Southwest.com.  You can get flights to Burbank (LA) for $79 one way if you book early enough.  They allow two free bags too.

4

EAT AT CARSON KITCHEN

Make sure you eat at Carson Kitchen when you go downtown to Fremont Street.  It’s easily our favorite restaurant at Grand Adventures because of it’s ambiance, food quality, and price.  It’s awesome!  Everything is great and they rotate a seasonal menu to stay current with fresh produce.  I’m an old pig from Michigan and love the bacon brie, gyro tacos, NY Strip, shrimp, oxtail risotto, and watermelon salad. Yum!

Andiamo's at the D

This is easily the best Italian food in Las Vegas.  It’s located on the second floor of the D on Fremont Street.  It’s a small place but big on great food!  Their steaks are great too but we’re getting to that next!

StripSteak at Mandalay Bay

I’ve eaten at every steakhouse in Las Vegas but StripSteak is the best.  It’s on the expensive side of the menu.  What you get with it though is the quality.  There’s a lot of places that charge a lot but don’t back it up.  They will here and the NY strip is excellent!  I’m not a foodie either.  I just like to plow through good food.

Cool Off-Strips

We love our local places like Cornish Pastie.  They have a Bluegrass jam on Sundays from 1-4pm.  Forte is a great Eastern European tapas place that rocks!  Everyone loves Archi’s Thai too, a secret local spot.

5

DIVE BARS

We have some really cool, old bars in the valley that date back to the mob era.

Stage Door

It’s located in the strip mall right behind the Flamingo and Cromwell.  It’s a great place to grab $2 beers.  Keep in mind, this is the DIVE bar list.

The Dispensary

Home of the $7.95 burger and Friday, Saturday night jazz club!  The Dispensary It’s located on Tropicana and Playboy Magazine rated them as the 4th best dive bar in America.

Bunkhouse Saloon

The local favorite of Killers front man and local legend, Brandon Flowers.  They have a really cool mix of live music so check their schedule.  You can double up on Carson Kitchen because it’s downtown.

6

TWO MUST SEE MUSEUMS

Make sure you check out the Mob and Neon Lights museums.  Both of them include a lot of Las Vegas history.  The lights museum has all of the old Vegas signs lit up and on display.  The Mob Museum is really cool, even if you hate museums.
